I love quotes, I am tweet them a lot, use them in blog posts and write them in my planner to define my weeks aims. I find them extremely useful for providing a motivation to achieve something; they provide proof that people do understand what you are going through and that people have succeeded where you want to succeed.
When I began my journey into minimalism I realised that I would need a constant source of inspiration to get through, and so I turned to quotes from minimalists to explain the lifestyle. After my recent mass clear-out and decision to get back into clean living I turned back to the quotes I used for inspiration. I decided to share them with you so that you can get inspired on your minimalism journey…
It is the heart that makes a man rich, He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has. – Henry Ward Beecher
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication – Leonardo Da Vinci
Have Less. Do More – Anonymous
The secret of happiness is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less – Socrates
Minimalism, as a lifestyle, is the art of letting go – Anonymous
I make myself rich by making my wants few – Henry David Thoreau
Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like – Will Rogers
Nothing is enough for the man to whom enough is too little – Epicurus
My quote for my minimalism inspiration is by Steve Jobs:
That’s been one of my mantras—focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.
I have an altered version of this on my bedroom wall, right above my bed. It’s altered mainly because I ran out of the letter ‘T’, but that’s beside the point. I really liked how this quote explained how minimalism isn’t just about what stuff you own… its about how you can change your thinking and improve your life that way too.
Finding the quote that resonates with your minimalism journey is something I think has really helped me develop my minimalism journey. It’s nice to know that there are people out there that think the way you want to, and have done it fairly successfully.
