12 Days of Reflection

12 Day of Reflection: Day 2 – Family

No Family is perfect. We argue, we fight. We even stop talking to each other at times, but in the end, family is family… the love with always be there.

Next year I hope that my relationship with my mum and dad will continue to improve, I also hope that I will continue to explore the amazing relationship I have and see where it will lead.

Christmas day is all about family, you spend the whole day surrounded by their intricate personalities with the determination not to argue. So its almost impossible to not reflect on the changes in the relationship with my family this year.

Over the last year, I am fortunate that the relationship between my parents and I has improved. We talk more, have a greater mutual respect for each other, and the pressure between us all has significantly reduced to the point they’re bearable to be around, almost.

I think its important to remember that despite the roots of our lives being intertwined, the new branches of our life and moving in differing directions. I think the acceptance of this has been the greatest reason our relationship has improved and i believe as our family life will improve; we shall stop treading on each others feet as much.

My sisters are almost grown up too; Hattie starts secondary school in September, and Verity is far to clever for her own good. I think as they develop independence from each other in different schools their personalities will grow and they’ll become much more individual.

2017 has been a great year for family, i can only hope 2018 will continue the tradition of a calm family life.
